Alex Jones – Microsoft Proposes Government Licensing Internet Access!
A new proposal by a top Microsoft executive would open the door for government licensing to access the Internet, with authorities being empowered to block individual computers from connecting to the world wide web under the pretext of preventing malware attacks.
Speaking to the ISSE 2010 computer security conference in Berlin yesterday, Scott Charney, Microsoft vice president of Trustworthy Computing, said that cybersecurity should mirror public health safety laws, with infected PC’s being “quarantined” by government decree and prevented from accessing the Internet.
“If a device is known to be a danger to the internet, the user should be notified and the device should be cleaned before it is allowed unfettered access to the internet, minimizing the risk of the infected device contaminating other devices,” Charney said.
Charney said the system would be a “global collective defense” run by corporations and government and would “track and control” people’s computers similar to how government health bodies track diseases.
Invoking the threat of malware attacks as a means of dissuading or blocking people from using the Internet is becoming a common theme — but it’s one tainted with political overtones.
At the launch of the Obama administration’s cybersecurity agenda earlier this year, Democrats attempted to claim that the independent news website The Drudge Report was serving malware, an incident Senator Jim Inhofe described as a deliberate ploy “to discourage people from using Drudge”.
Under the new proposals, not only would the government cite the threat of malware to prevent people from visiting Drudge, they would be blocked from the entire world wide web, creating a dangerous precedent by giving government the power to dictate whether people can use the Internet and effectively opening the door for a licensing system to be introduced.
Similar to how vehicle inspections are mandatory for cars in some states before they can be driven, are we entering a phase where you will have to obtain a PC health check before a government IP czar will issue you with a license, or an Internet ID card, allowing you to access the web?
Of course, the only way companies or the government could know when your system becomes infected with malware is to have some kind of mandatory software or firewall installed on every PC which sends data to a centralized hub, greasing the skids for warrantless surveillance and other invasions of privacy.
Microsoft has been at the forefront of a bid to introduce Internet licensing as a means of controlling how people access and use the world wide web, an effort that has intensified over the course of the past year.

2012 is when the Internet will end – Part 1
In 2012, the internet as we know it today will be completely different.
Big players in the ISP industry have supposedly signed contracts to implement ‘internet 2′ in 2012 – meaning free wireless internet broadband access for all, but only access to a few thousand sites (some of which you must pay for before gaining access to).
This inevitably means a reduction in our freedom of expression, since the internet was originally designed to be a ‘free space’.
What has to be done is wide-spread boycotting and protests against ‘internet 2′ and the censoring which is already rife amongst websites such as google and youtube.

Stephen Banable on ‘The New EU Telecoms Package’
About the Speech:
The wide number of proposals in the Telecoms Package are designed to coordinate action amongst regulators to create a pro-competitive single market without regulatory borders and to reinforce competition. It is intended that this will facilitate high speed internet networks for all Europeans and stimulate economic growth.
In particular, the package will provide for:
- more powers to the Commission including issuing legally binding decisions to ensure the harmonisation of regulation across Member States;
- the establishment of a new telecoms agency;
- ensuring access to optical fibre by smaller telecoms operators;
- the possibility of introducing a functional separation between services and network activities of telecoms operators;
- the introduction of the notion of universal broadband services to consumers;
- wireless services will be made EU-wide operable by harmonising radio spectrum use; and
- the Telecoms Package will provide for the switching of bandwidth from a part of the frequencies now used for broadcasting, to provide wireless broadband services in the future.
These policy objectives of the Telecoms Package are of particular interest to industry regulators, consumer groups, Irish government departments and electronic communication/telecoms operators.
About the Speakers:
Stephen Banable is a national expert with the European Commission in DG Information Society and Media with responsibility for mobile regulatory issues and implementation of the telecoms regulatory framework. Currently he is responsible for the Commission’s proposal for a regulation on international roaming charges.
John Doherty is Chairperson of the Commission for Communications Regulation.
John Whelan is a solicitor specialising in information technology and telecoms regulation at A&L Goodbody.

Communications tower in Rio Rancho, New Mexico
A communications tower belonging to Roadrunner Wireless Services in Albuquerque, NM supplied wireless Internet to the citizens of Rio Rancho and Albuquerque, NM. This tower was taken down involuntarily on November 24, 2008. The Rio Rancho government illegally interfered with an Albuquerque business, stopping them from supplying wireless Internet to the citizens of Rio Rancho, NM. Now the citizens of Rio Rancho and Albuquerque have no wireless Internet for their jobs, education, etc. They were denied this access because the Rio Rancho government wants an outrageous and unfair amount of money in exchange for the right to deploy wireless Internet. Rio Rancho, NM is now a nationwide joke and embarrassment.

Who manages our domain names?
There are 360 000 domain names ending in .nz, one for every 11 New Zealanders. Last week’s re-branding raised awareness of the newer 2nd level domain names (SLD’s) in NZ such as .geek.nz, and .maori.nz by the Domain Name Commission; mentioned was the new SLD .health.nz which the Domain Name Commissioner Debbie Monahan explains in this video is a “moderated second level domain name” meaning organisations must apply and be approved for using the .health.nz domain. The NZ Domain Name Commission http://www.dnc.org.nz regulates the New Zealand domain name space including issuing the UDAI key used for seamlessly transferring your domain name to a different registrar in New Zealand, and can approve requests for new second level domain names.
