You’re ready to debut your web site, but you need a URL. Give your web site a domain that is both memorable and fitting.

To complete this How-To you will need:

A domain name
Internet access
Payment

Step 1: Choose a name

Pick a name that is simple, short, and fits your content. If you are registering a business web site, the name of the business should be the domain name.

Step 2: Search for name

Go to an official internet registrar online. Search for the domain name you want to register to check if it’s available. If the name isn’t available, comparable alternatives are sometimes suggested.

Tip: Consider purchasing additional, similar names. In addition to .COM, consider buying .NET and .ORG, too. This helps direct traffic to your site.

Step 3: Register

Register an account with your provider. This typically involves supplying contact and billing information.

Step 4: Purchase domain

Purchase the domain name. Now you have successfully reserved an address that is memorable, short, and fits your site’s content.

How to Fix a Wet Cell Phone

Expand the description and view the text of the steps for this how-to video.

Check out Howcast for other do-it-yourself videos from Chris_Davis and more videos in the Cell Phones category.

You can contribute too! Create your own DIY guide at http://www.howcast.com/videos/new or produce your own Howcast spots with the Howcast Filmmakers Program at http://www.howcast.com/filmmakers/apply.

It should come as no surprise that water and electronics don’t mix. But don’t panic—your cell phone can be saved.

To complete this How-To you will need:

A plastic container with a lid
A blow-dryer
A towel
And two silica gel packs

Step 1: Remove battery

Remove your phone’s battery. Many circuits inside the phone will survive if they are not attached to a power source when wet.

Step 2: Remove sim card

Consult the manual to remove your phone’s Sim card, which stores the phone’s data and allows it to connect to your service provider. Sim cards can survive water damage.

Step 3: Dab w/ towel

Dab the phone, battery, and Sim card with a towel, then set the last two items aside.

Step 4: Dry with blow-dryer

With your blow-dryer set on low (or the cool air blast), dry your phone, getting as much water out of the unit as possible.

Step 5: Seal with silica gel packs

Place your phone, battery, and Sim card in the plastic container with the silica gel packs. These absorb moisture and can be found in packaging, craft stores, or online. Allow the container to sit sealed for three days.

Tip: If you don’t have access to silica gel, place your phone in front of the air conditioner—the cool air can help dry out moisture.

Step 6: Test battery

If your phone does not work after three days, plug it into its charger without the battery. If this works, you will need a new battery.

Step 7: Call everyone

Call up everyone to explain why you haven’t returned calls in three days.

Source Boston 2010: Cracking the Foundation: Attacking WCF Web Services 5/5

Clip 5/5
Speaker: Brian Holyfield, Gotham Digital Science

Hacking a web service generally isn’t rocket science. But what if the web service requires messages to be sent using a binary protocol? What if it requires message level encryption but you don’t have a key? These are just a few common scenarios you are likely to encounter when trying to attack a web service built with Windows Communication Foundation (WCF). Through a series of live demonstrations, the presentation will show how to identify and attack WCF web services and discuss useful tools and tips to make testing WCF services easier. Attendees will leave with the knowledge necessary to effectively conduct penetration testing against WCF applications.

The following live demonstrations will be conducted (time permitting):
- Burp Plug-in for WCF Binary Soap Messages (MC-NBFS)
- De-compilation of Silverlight XAP for obtaining WCF Meta Data
- Crafting Meta Data Exchange (MEX) Requests for Retrieving WCF Meta Data
- Communicating with WCF using WS-S Anonymous Message Encryption
- Writing a Custom WCF Test Client (in less than 10 lines of code)
- TCP Port Probing through WCF Duplex Callback Channels

Presentation Outline:
1. WCF Overview
2. Silverlight WCF Web Services
2a. MC-NBFS Protocol
2b. Obtaining Meta Data from WCF
2c. Analyzing Silverlight XAP
3. Secure WCF Binding
3a. WS-S Message Encryption
3b. Custom WCF Clients
4. WCF Duplex Services
4a. Attacking Callback Channels
