Anytime you go on the data network you will be charged. This includes the internet, downloading anything (song, video, application), receiving a picture or video message, chatting using IM programs, accessing email, so basically anything a phone does that is beyond making/receiving a call. As far as subscription charges, this just allows you unlimited use of the application, but if you are still sending and receiving data you will still be charged data usage. For example if you want to download a ringtone it costs like $2.99 but that price is just the "subscription", you will also be charged for downloading the song, but this price is usually small because ringtones usually arent that big. So your $2.99 ringtone will end up being $3.19. Once your data usage charges gets up to $15 call verizon and tell them to put on the unlimited data package, its $15/month and you dont have to worry about data usage.

you are better off buying the phone with the contract also most cell phone companies will still make you have a 2 yr or a 1 yr contract even if you already own the phone. you may want to make sure of this
How to offer paid internet access to customers in my store?
